Kahn's lectures were first delivered at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London in 1930. The lectures were a great success, and they were subsequently published in book form in 1932. The book has since been translated into many languages, and it has become a classic text in the field of architecture.

In his lectures, Kahn argues that modern architecture is a new and distinct style that emerged in the early 20th century. He identifies the following characteristics of modern architecture:

  • The use of new materials and technologies, such as steel, glass, and concrete.
  • The emphasis on function over form.
  • The rejection of traditional architectural ornament.
  • The use of simple, geometric shapes.
  • The integration of architecture with the surrounding environment.

Kahn's lectures are a passionate and eloquent defense of modern architecture. He argues that modern architecture is a more humane and rational style than traditional architecture, and that it is better suited to the needs of the modern world. Kahn's lectures are a must-read for anyone interested in the history and theory of architecture.
