Drawing on extensive ethnographic research, the book provides a detailed account of the contemporary craft scene in England. It explores the motivations and experiences of a diverse range of craftspeople, from traditional woodworkers to contemporary ceramicists, and examines the ways in which their work reflects the social, economic, and cultural changes that have shaped English society in recent years.

One of the key themes explored in the book is the role of craftwork in fostering a sense of community and belonging. In an increasingly fragmented and individualistic society, craftwork provides a tangible and meaningful way for people to connect with others and express their creativity. The book examines the ways in which craft workshops and guilds are becoming new spaces for social interaction and cultural exchange, and the role of craft in promoting traditional skills, knowledge, and values.

Another key theme is the impact of globalization on craftwork. The book explores the ways in which the global economy has both supported and challenged traditional crafts. On the one hand, the growth of international trade has created new markets for English crafts, allowing craftspeople to reach a wider audience and earn a livelihood from their work. On the other hand, the influx of cheap, mass-produced goods has led to a decline in the demand for some traditional crafts, and has forced craftspeople to adapt and diversify in Free Download to survive.

The book also examines the ways in which craftwork is being used as a form of political and social activism. In recent years, there has been a growing movement of craftspeople who are using their work to raise awareness of environmental issues, social justice, and other important causes. The book explores the ways in which craftwork can be used to create a more sustainable and equitable society, and the role of craftspeople as agents of social change.
